This year’s Winter Solstice falls on the day of the New Moon. These events happen just a couple of hours from each other on Sunday afternoon, December 21, 2014. This speaks volumes of what the upcoming year of 2015 is all about. At 6:36pm MST, the Sun and the Moon move together into the sign of Capricorn, stationing at 0 degrees for the New Moon.
As the ‘make it happen’ sign, a Capricorn New Moon at 0 degrees on the Winter Solstice, the re-birth of the Sun tells us that, indeed, it is time for us to get to task on a new start for this planet. This Solstice marks two years since the 2012 end of the Mayan calendar. We are called to ask ourselves, ‘where are we now?’ The Universe is answering that question very decisively with this astrology and telling us it is time to move into a new start.
December 21, 2012 marked the end of the ‘Kali Yuga’ or ‘dark period’ which began in 3102 BC. The Kali Yuga is also called the ‘age of the demon’ and means ‘”strife”, “discord”, “quarrel” or “contention”‘ according to Wikipedia. December 21, 2012 also marked the end of the Piscean Age and the beginning of the Aquarian Age. We were all waiting for a big shift in the world. There are signs that our world is beginning to awaken, but for many of us this ‘shift’ has been much less dramatic than we had hoped.
We have been in a transitional phase. It kind of feels like our whole planet has been ‘void of course’. Do you happen to feel this way in your life? Perhaps the direction you thought you were headed, suddenly changed. Or perhaps you have been picked up out of that job, relationship, or experience you thought was for the long haul, finding yourself somewhere completely different. It’s like the roundhouse is turning and we are losing orientation of which direction we came from and we are not sure what track we will end up on or where it may be headed. This re-birth of the Sun 2014 is all about beginning to build the New, even if we don’t have any idea what that might look like as of yet.
On Tuesday morning December 23, Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn changes signs after having spent two years in a rather uncomfortable position in the sign of Scorpio. It has our cleaning up our shadow side the focus of our great karmic work. Saturn the ‘task-master’ in the watery, mysterious depths of Scorpio has been forcing us to clear up our inner muck. Now Saturn is moving into Sagittarius, the sign of the expansive dreamer. This is another sign that it is time to start building the future.
Don’t worry if your past isn’t cleaned up….it will be. And probably in the next six months. 2015 brings the final, 7th of 7, square aspect of Pluto and Uranus happening in March 2015. This month we moved into the 6th exact of this square, but because of Uranus going direct, these planets stay within a degree of each other until Pluto goes retrograde on April 17th, 2015.
We are really getting ‘cooked’ in this energy as we come to the completion of this powerful aspect that has been going on for three years. In 2015 these planets begin to separate out of this square formation, when we will actually begin to feel the effects of this monumental astrological event. It is interesting to note that the social changes of the late 60’s attributed to the conjunction of these planets in ’65-’66 didn’t show themselves until a few years after the actual aspect had occurred. As the wheel of time moves forward into the new, whatever old structures which are no longer suiting you, that you have not yet been able to let go of, are bound to shake themselves lose very soon.
We have been like a wagon wheel stuck in the mud for the last two years with Saturn in Scorpio. It’s been like trying to clear the mud from the wheel in a loboriously slow and frustrating inner process, as if with only a tool like Qtips, bit by bit. But now the mud has dried enough for the wagon to start moving again. Know that whatever mud is left on your wheel is sure to come flying up in you face in a very obvious way. This may be shocking at first, but in 2015 it will be much easier to wipe away the grime and get on with it, so says the New Moon at 0 degrees Capricorn. Forward motion, after so long feeling in the mucky in-between, will feel amazing. 2015 is a great year to start anew in all areas of life.
Something else very special is occurring on the day of the Solstice. Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, and harbinger of the Aquarian Age, turns direct after being retrograde since June of 2014, another nod to the imminent arrival into the Aquarian Age. The message of this day is clear. It is time to get on about the business of creating our new world. Aquarius represents innovation and inventions, communication and information. It is a sign of independence and individualism as well as strong group collective consciousness. Aquarius is visionary and rebellious, challenging authority. Aquarius wants to right social wrongs and tear down existing structures in order to replace them with something better. The energy of ruler Uranus can bring sudden unexpected action but with humanitarian goals based on brotherly love.
In the quiet of the season, ponder this….’What does my life look like as an active member of the Aquarian Age of Enlightenment?’

Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions

And the mind’s true liberation
When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars
